Math Solutions for Adopted Programs

Adopting a standards-based curriculum can initiate profound change in a district’s math program. However, teachers must have opportunities to learn how to use the materials to engage students in meaningful ways. Designed to support effective implementation of your district’s adopted curriculum, this course helps teachers:

  • deepen understanding of the math content addressed in the materials;
  • understand and use instructional models, approaches, and routines built into the materials;
  • understand the role of assessment to inform instruction and effectively use the assessment resources in the program; and
  • determine alignment between curriculum materials and district and state standards and assessments.

Resource Materials: Supplementary resources are chosen based on course content and district needs.


School-Based Coaching

Our custom-designed school-based coaching typically begins with a walk-through to observe and discuss critical elements and needs of the school’s mathematics program. Then we work with you to develop a coaching plan that may include:

  • support for implementing new teaching practices;
  • demonstration lessons, including pre- and post-conversations, to illustrate instructional practices;
  • collegial planning and observation of lessons to refine instruction;
  • collaborative instructional planning for grade levels;
  • development and deepening of teachers’ content knowledge; and
  • analysis of student work samples to assess learning and determine instructional next steps.

At its most effective, school-based coaching occurs over time. Key to its effectiveness are the involvement of the principal and schedules that accommodate teacher participation.
