Teaching MeasurementMeasurement is important in the mathematics curriculum because of its practicality and pervasiveness in so many aspects of everyday life. As students measure in different contexts, they develop understanding of important ideas about measurement as well as mathematical concepts from other strands of the curriculum, especially number and geometry. This course engages participants in deepening their own understanding of what it means to measure. Activities provide teachers the basis for planning and facilitating instruction that supports students in learning to make appropriate decisions about measurement situations, units, and tools.
